We are welcoming a baby girl into our world soon, and we want to keep the bedroom closest to ours the baby room. BUT something that was so important to me was that my little boy didn’t feel like he was getting “pushed out” or “replaced” by the baby. I felt like the best way to do that was to:
- Have him move rooms BEFORE the baby gets here
- Make the “reveal” a surprise for him
- Talk about it A LOT before it happens so he knows it’s coming!
We finally made the switch last week and my goodness it went so smoothly! He was so surprised, loves his new space, and feels really special!! I am so grateful it went how it did.
Also! We did it on a budget. A lot of the stuff we already had:
- Canvas Bookshelf
- Dresser (from HomeGoods- can’t find anything similar for a reasonable price!)
- Anywhere Chair
- Lamp (had for ages! No idea where it’s from!!)
- Bookshelves
- Curtain Rod
- Queen Duvet
- Picture Frames (from Target years ago. No longer carry)
- Mother & Son Figurine
- Classic Teddy Bear (Linked Similar)
And we thrifted a few things off Facebook Marketplace
- Twin Bed (Linked Similar)
- Twin Mattress (Never been used! lol)
Here are the few new things I got for the room!
- Twin Mattress Protector
- Twin Sheet Set
- Queen Duvet Cover Set: BLUE (Hack! Buy a queen for a twin bed for it to drape over the sides more!)
- Rug
- Storage Bench
- Vehicle Pennant
- Light Fixture
- Curtains
- Piggy Bank
- Glow in the dark stars
I was hesitant to even share this room because there’s so many other amazingly decorated spaces out there. With wallpaper! With paint! With all the knick knacks and wood trim etc, etc. But this space is so special to us and I really do feel like it came together so perfectly and has been such a special transition for my big 4 year old!! XOXO, Jos
