I didn’t have my daughter for her birthday this year. It was the first big event we’ve tackled so far in our new co-parenting relationship. I spent a lot of days leading up to her birthday in tears. But when the actual day came, I spent it celebrating, reflecting, and cherishing HER, even though I wasn’t with her. I wrote her a letter. I blew up and tied 50 balloons (please send me your amazon links so I never have to do this again!) and prepped the birthday celebration I’d have with her when she got back from a special trip with her dad.
Not having her on her birthday made it SO clear that the only thing that mattered was her.
And that she felt all the love in the world. And while there might not be many perks to a kid growing up in multiple homes, I take heart knowing that multiple birthday celebrations can’t be a bad thing 😉
